🐭 Aussie Animal Sentience Laws 🐬

Check this out - Australia is doing some pretty badass things for animals. The state of Victoria is rolling out new plans to help change the game in animal welfare. Animals are on the brink of being recognized as sentient beings, which is another way of saying these creatures feel stuff just like we do (no surprise from us!).

This is a huge leap from their outdated animal cruelty laws of the past.

We're talking about a total overhaul coming in 2024 – stricter rules to protect animals and harsher penalties for anyone messing with them.

Victoria is helping to lead the charge, showing the world how it's done when it comes to respecting our animal pals.

This isn't just a minor tweak. This is a major statement. We're seeing a shift in how we view and treat all creatures, from the cuddly animal companions to the fascinating sea-dwellers.

👊 Read more about it in The Guardian. It's the kind of news that gets you pumped about where the world's heading.

Team Member Interview: Andrew Burton

Hey! I’m Andrew, and I’m a member of the operations team. I do a lot of stuff in the background to keep things running.

What's your favorite vegan protein source, and why?

I feel like a shill for “Big-soy,” but in my mind, soy truly is the superior form of protein (sorry to those who are allergic). Call me a soyboy all you want but I will stand by soy to the end of my days. I’ll happily eat my tofu with soy sauce and a tall glass of soy milk to boot. For a snack, maybe I’ll have some roasted edamame.

“I’ll happily eat my tofu with soy sauce and a tall glass of soy milk”

What's one vegan myth you'd like to debunk?

Great question! Since we’re on the topic of soy, the myths surrounding the dangers of soy grind my gears. Hmm if only there was a handy resource I could start sending people about those dangers…*nudge nudge* check out this sick video:

If you could have any superpower to help promote veganism, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would choose the superpower of talking to animals. My colleague mentioned this once and it opened my eyes to the potentiality of vegan-based superpowers.

Being able to speak for animals would be perfect for spreading word about the plight of animal agriculture. Of course, there’s also a superpower related to persuasion. I would use that power to enact laws related to animal advocacy.
