My Fundamental Belief
My fundamental belief is that our most powerful weapon against disease is the food we eat every day. Almost all of us in the United States will die of what Dr. T. Colin Campbell calls, “diseases of affluence,” namely, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
I have come to firmly believe that a plant-based (vegan) diet is the most healthy, most ethical, and most environmentally sustainable diet. Period. I understand this is a bold statement, but I believe I have all the supporting evidence necessary to justify my claims.
I am acutely aware that my recommendation for consuming a plant-based diet will be met with skepticism, even hostility, on the part of the general public. On one hand, this attitude is surprising to me as many cultures thrive on a plant-based diet! On the other hand, I understand that dietary preferences are deeply personal and one can easily be offended when you challenge their long-held beliefs. But, I believe you have a right to know the truth, and sometimes the truth is hard to accept.
I also don’t mind skepticism or hostility, because I know I am right across the board, especially in terms of ethics and environmental sustainability. The world is changing. Many people are moving towards plant-based diets, and I want to be on the right side of history. I’m not here to win a popularity contest. I feel no need to be politically correct. You are of course entitled to your own opinion. If you hate me for stating the claims I’m about to make, that’s fine with me. But please approach this article with an open mind. You will be much better off for doing so.
